Country: United States
ZOX is a rock band from Providence, Rhode Island, formed by members who met while studying at Brown University. The quartet—John Zox (drums), Eli Miller (guitar and vocals), Spencer Swain (violin and vocals), and Dan Edinberg (bass and vocals)—built an early reputation through energetic live performances and grassroots touring. Their debut album Take Me Home (2003) led to an intense touring schedule of up to 300 shows a year across the United States and Europe, including opening slots and tours with artists such as The Black Eyed Peas, O.A.R., and Rusted Root. The band gained wider recognition with their second album The Wait (2005), which reached No. 7 on Billboard’s Internet Album Charts and became the top-selling album in Rhode Island during its debut week. Songs from the album, especially “Can’t Look Down,” received extensive exposure through television, films, and online platforms, while the album itself charted on CMJ. In 2006, ZOX appeared at South by Southwest, signed with SideOneDummy Records, and toured extensively, including performances at major festivals such as Reading and Leeds, Rock am Ring, and Rock im Park. ZOX released their third album, Line in the Sand, in 2008, produced by John Goodmanson, and it was met with positive reviews and national radio airplay for the single “Goodnight.” After periods of reduced activity, the band reunited for hometown concerts in 2011 and 2014. In 2021, ZOX released Lost and Found: B-Sides, a collection of previously unreleased recordings discovered during the COVID-19 pandemic, marking a renewed chapter in the band’s history.
