Winston Reedy

Country: Jamaica

Winston Reedy (born 13 July 1950 in Saint Catherine Parish, Jamaica) is a Jamaican reggae singer best known for his smooth lovers rock style. He first gained prominence as the lead vocalist of The Cimarons from 1970 before launching a successful solo career in the late 1970s. Reedy achieved major recognition in the UK with hit songs such as “Paradise in Your Eyes,” “Moi Emma Oh,” and especially “Dim the Lights” (1983), which earned him the title of Britain’s best reggae singer for three consecutive years. As a solo artist, Reedy built a strong reputation within lovers rock, dancehall, and conscious roots reggae. He collaborated with many influential figures in reggae music, including Gregory Isaacs, Jackie Mittoo, Mafia & Fluxy, Dennis Alcapone, Vin Gordon, and Joseph Cotton, recording at renowned studios such as Channel One Studios and Easy Street Studios. His performances and recordings helped solidify his standing as one of the leading lovers rock vocalists in Britain. Reedy has remained active well into the 21st century. In 2005, he appeared at the New Year’s Eve Gala – Lovers Rock event in Brixton alongside Janet Kay and other notable artists. His long relationship with Jet Star Records led to the release of the album Reality in 2008. In 2012, he performed at the Respect Jamaica 50 concert series with artists such as U-Roy, Yellowman, and Tappa Zukie, celebrating Jamaica’s 50th anniversary of independence and reaffirming his enduring influence in reggae music.
