Tropidelic is an American band from Cleveland, Ohio, formed in 2005 by frontman Matthew Roads. The group developed its sound by blending reggae rock, hip-hop, funk, and punk, creating energetic music driven by positive messages and sharp social commentary. After several lineup changes, Tropidelic solidified a reputation for explosive live performances and a strong grassroots fanbase built through constant touring and independent releases. The band gained wider recognition with albums such as Heavy Is the Head (2017), which reached the Billboard reggae charts, followed by Here in the Heights (2019) and Of Illusion (2020), the latter earning Reggae 360’s Album of the Year. Tropidelic are known for high-profile collaborations with artists including Dirty Heads, 311, Matisyahu, Brother Ali, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, and The Pharcyde, reflecting their cross-genre appeal. Beyond recorded music, Tropidelic are deeply connected to their community, hosting their own annual festivals such as Freakstomp and Everwild, which showcase reggae-rock and hip-hop acts from across the U.S. Their 2024 album Royal Grove continued their evolution, emphasizing uplifting themes and polished production while reinforcing their place as a leading force in contemporary American reggae-fusion music.
