The Soul Rebels, also known as the Soul Rebels Brass Band, are an eight-piece New Orleans-based brass ensemble that seamlessly blends soul, jazz, funk, hip-hop, rock, and pop within a contemporary brass band framework. Founded by percussionists Derrick Moss and Lumar LeBlanc, the group started out performing locally in New Orleans and quickly built a reputation for their energetic live shows, eventually earning the name "Soul Rebels" from Cyril Neville after opening for him at Tipitina’s. The current lineup includes Moss and LeBlanc on percussion, Julian Gosin and Marcus Hubbard on trumpet, Corey Peyton and Paul Robertson on trombone, Erion Williams on saxophone, and Manuel Perkins Jr. on sousaphone. The band maintains a weekly residency at Le Bon Temps Roule in Uptown New Orleans while touring extensively around the world. The Soul Rebels have collaborated with a wide array of artists across genres, including Metallica, Green Day, Nas, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Joey Bada$$, Slick Rick, Talib Kweli, GZA, and Trombone Shorty, among many others. Their performances are known for combining the power of horns and percussion with a funky, party-like energy that captivates audiences. They have shared stages with major artists like Bruno Mars, Kanye West, Arcade Fire, and Snoop Dogg, and have appeared on national and international television programs, in films, and at music festivals worldwide, from Bonnaroo and Electric Forest to the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. In addition to live performances, The Soul Rebels have released several acclaimed albums and mixtapes, including Unlock Your Mind (2012) and the free Power = Power mixtape (2013), which reimagines contemporary hits with a brass band twist.
