The Hippy Boys were a Jamaican reggae band formed in 1968 by Lloyd Charmers. The group featured some of Jamaica’s most talented musicians: Alva "Reggie" Lewis – guitar Glen Adams – organ Aston "Family Man" Barrett – bass guitar Carlton Barrett – drums Career Highlights The Hippy Boys rose to prominence around the time of the UK Singles Chart success of "Return of Django" (1969) by Lee "Scratch" Perry and the Upsetters. When the original Upsetters were unable to tour the UK due to scheduling conflicts, the Hippy Boys were recruited as the new Upsetters for a six-week UK tour. This caused frequent confusion between the two bands in later years. The band also recorded with Max Romeo, contributing to the development of the reggae sound in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The Hippy Boys are notable for launching the careers of Aston and Carlton Barrett, who later became the backing rhythm section for Bob Marley & The Wailers, shaping the foundation of roots reggae.
