Tami Chynn

Country: Jamaica

Tammar Chin Mitchell, professionally known as Tami Chynn, is a Jamaican singer, songwriter, dancer, and fashion collaborator born on 14 June 1983 in Kingston, Jamaica. She grew up in a musically inclined family—her parents were members of the band The Carnations, and her younger sister is Tessanne Chin, winner of The Voice US Season 5. Tami was educated in St. Andrew, Jamaica, and later moved to the UK at age 14 to study performing arts before returning to Jamaica at 17 to pursue her music career, releasing her first single “Rock U.” Her early career included touring as a backup dancer for Shaggy before she transitioned fully into music. In 2005, she signed a four-album deal with Universal Motown Records and collaborated with major reggae and dancehall artists such as Beenie Man, Lady Saw, and Sean Paul. Her debut album, Out of Many… One (2006), produced the internet hit “Hyperventilating” and gained modest international attention, particularly in Japan, though it did not achieve major commercial success in the US. In 2008, Tami Chynn signed with Akon’s Konvict Muzik label and began work on her second album, Prima Donna, executive-produced by Akon and RedOne. Although the album remains unreleased, she gained high-profile exposure through tours, a Pepsi commercial, and appearances alongside artists like Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, and New Kids on the Block. She also co-wrote “Hypnotico,” later recorded by Jennifer Lopez. Beyond music, Tami ventured into fashion design and, by 2014, shifted focus to managing her sister Tessanne Chin, continuing her influence within the entertainment industry.
