Steven “Lenky” Marsden is a Jamaican music producer and musician best known for his influential work in dancehall reggae. Raised in East Kingston’s Windward Road area, he developed his musical roots within Jamaica’s vibrant sound system culture. Lenky is the founder of 40/40 Records and previously performed as a member of Buju Banton’s band, gaining early exposure to professional reggae and dancehall music. Lenky rose to international fame with the creation of the Diwali riddim, one of the most successful dancehall riddims in history. The riddim powered global hits such as Sean Paul’s “Get Busy,” Wayne Wonder’s “No Letting Go,” and Lumidee’s “Never Leave You,” all of which achieved top positions on the Billboard charts. He also produced the Masterpiece riddim, further cementing his reputation, and has worked closely with legendary producers Sly and Robbie as a satellite member of their Taxi label. In recognition of his impact, Marsden received the ASCAP Songwriter of the Year Award in 2004. He was honored for multiple chart-topping songs, including “Get Busy,” which also won Song of the Year, highlighting his role in bringing dancehall music to a global mainstream audience.
