Stephen Marley

Stephen Robert Nesta Marley, born on April 20, 1972, is a Jamaican-American musician, producer, and one of the most accomplished members of the Marley family. The second son of Bob Marley and Rita Marley, Stephen began performing professionally at just seven years old with his siblings in Ziggy Marley & The Melody Makers. Raised between Delaware and Kingston, he was deeply mentored by his father and grew into a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and producer whose work blends roots reggae, dancehall, hip-hop, and soul. As a member of Ziggy Marley & The Melody Makers, Stephen helped the group achieve international success, winning three Grammy Awards, including for the platinum album Conscious Party. He later became a highly influential producer, modernizing reggae for new audiences through projects like Chant Down Babylon and producing Grammy-winning albums for his younger brother Damian Marley, including Halfway Tree and Welcome to Jamrock. Stephen also collaborated with major artists such as Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu, the Fugees, and Nas, solidifying his reputation behind the scenes. Stephen’s solo career began with Mind Control (2007), followed by Revelation Pt. 1 – The Root of Life (2011) and Revelation Pt. 2 – The Fruit of Life (2016), all of which topped the Billboard Reggae charts and earned Grammy Awards. Known for composing, producing, and performing much of his own music, Stephen has won eight Grammy Awards in total. Continuing to innovate, he released Old Soul in 2023, maintaining his legacy as a bridge between classic Marley roots and contemporary global reggae sounds.
