Anna-Sharé Blake, professionally known as Sevana (born 21 November 1991), is a Jamaican singer and actress known for her soulful take on reggae, R&B, and dancehall. Born in Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland, Jamaica, she originally aspired to be a doctor but shifted to music as a teenager. In 2008, Sevana formed the girl group SLR and competed in Digicel Rising Stars, finishing third. After the group disbanded in 2009, she took a hiatus from music, working various jobs before returning to the industry in 2014. She was featured on Protoje’s song Sudden Flight and began performing with his collective, In.Digg.Nation, which eventually signed her to their label. Sevana released her self-titled EP in 2016 and toured Europe, while also taking on acting with a lead role in the web series Losing Patience. Sevana’s major label debut came in 2020 with the EP Be Somebody following In.Digg.Nation Collective’s partnership with RCA Records and Six Course Media Group. Singles like If You Only Knew showcased her “sultry vocals and strong musical range,” earning critical praise. She performed in NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert and at the Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival in 2021, though that year also included a legal issue after a traffic accident, for which she was fined. In 2022, Sevana left In.Digg.Nation Collective to join Goodhzmusic, marking a new chapter in her career. Sevana’s artistry blends reggae, soul, R&B, and dancehall, which she describes as “every sound but with a Jamaican filter.” She aims to inspire young dark-skinned girls and women to embrace their beauty and cites Celine Dion as a major influence and Beres Hammond as a source of inspiration.
