Phillip Leo (born 29 April 1967) is a British reggae singer, songwriter, and producer from South London, born to Jamaican parents. He began his musical journey playing steel pan at school and later learned drums and keyboards. In 1988, he signed with Fashion Records, quickly rising through the UK reggae scene with his debut single “Rocking the Night Away”, which reached the UK Reggae Chart Top 10. Alongside his solo career, Leo became one of the UK’s most respected reggae songwriters and producers. He penned and produced numerous hits for other artists, including Janet Lee Davis’ No. 1 single “Two Timing Lover”, and collaborated extensively with DJ CJ Lewis, scoring major chart success in the UK, Europe, and Japan. His debut album Lover of Music (1990) reached No. 3 on the Reggae Album Chart and established his smooth lovers rock sound. Leo later signed with EMI Records, achieved UK Singles Chart success, and produced CJ Lewis’ multi-platinum albums. Through his own labels, Breakin’ Loose and Sharma Productions, he continued releasing acclaimed albums and working internationally, particularly in Japan. His later work includes the albums Down 2 Earth and Faithfully (2017), confirming his legacy as a key figure in British reggae and lovers rock music.
