Natural Vibrations, also known as Natty Vibes, is a reggae band originally formed in Kahaluʻu, Oʻahu, Hawaii, and later based in San Diego, California. Founded in 1992 by a group of friends, the band developed a distinctive “Jawaiian” sound—blending Hawaiian music with Jamaican reggae—infused with rock, pop, party energy, and dance rhythms. Their music often centers on themes of love, relaxation, and island lifestyle, helping them become a staple at backyard parties, festivals, and reggae events across Hawaii and beyond. The band gained major recognition with their early albums, starting with Balls Rolling (1996) and the award-winning All Natural (1998), which earned a Na Hoku Hanohano Award for Best Reggae Album. Continued success followed with Getting High (2000) and The Circle (2003), the latter peaking at #12 on the Billboard Top Reggae Albums chart. Their fifth album, From the Heart (2007), marked their highest Billboard placement at #5 and further solidified their reputation as one of Hawaii’s most celebrated reggae acts, accumulating multiple Hawaii Music Awards and Na Hoku Hanohano Awards. After years of touring and a gradual slowdown, the band released Got This Music in 2011, featuring notable collaborations, before entering a period of reduced activity and lineup changes. Lead vocalist Penidean Pua'auli departed in 2014 to pursue a solo career, though he later reunited with the band for a major 2018 reunion tour and a 2019 single. Despite legal disputes over performance rights to the band’s catalog, Natural Vibrations has continued performing with its current lineup, including a notable appearance at the California Roots Festival in 2022, maintaining their legacy in Hawaiian and American reggae music.
