Country: Jamaica
Morgan Heritage is a Grammy-winning Jamaican reggae band formed in 1994 by five children of reggae artist Denroy Morgan: Peter "Peetah" Morgan, Una Morgan, Roy "Gramps" Morgan, Nakhamyah "Lukes" Morgan, and Memmalatel "Mr. Mojo" Morgan. The group made their first appearance at Reggae Sunsplash in Jamaica the same year and released their debut album, Miracles, which had a pop-oriented sound. After moving to Jamaica, the band refined their roots reggae style, releasing albums such as Protect Us Jah (1997), One Calling (1998), and Don't Haffi Dread (1999), along with live and compilation albums documenting their growing influence. Throughout the 2000s, Morgan Heritage continued to tour internationally and release albums, including Three in One (2003), Full Circle (2005), and Mission In Progress (2008). Following a period of solo projects, they reunited in 2012 with the single "The Return," leading to their album Here Come the Kings in 2013 and subsequent European tours. They collaborated with several prominent reggae artists such as Capleton, Junior Kelly, Luciano, Gentleman, and Beres Hammond, solidifying their place in the global reggae scene. Morgan Heritage achieved significant recognition with their 2015 album Strictly Roots, which won the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album in 2016. Their 2018 album Avrakedabra earned another Grammy nomination, and they received a second Grammy in 2019. In February 2024, the band mourned the loss of lead singer Peter "Peetah" Morgan, who passed away at the age of 46, marking the end of an era for the influential reggae collective.
