Mishka

Mishka (Mishka Frith) is a Bermudian-Canadian reggae singer-songwriter who grew up sailing across the Caribbean on his family’s boat. Born to a Bermudian father and Nova Scotian mother, Mishka was home-schooled alongside his sisters, including singer Heather Nova and television reporter Susannah Frith. He comes from a creative family—his uncle Michael K. Frith helped create Miss Piggy and Fraggle Rock, and his cousin is folk singer Jonathan Frith. Before focusing on music, Mishka was a talented windsurfer, representing Bermuda in the world championships in 1991 and 1992. Mishka began his professional music career in 1997 when he signed with Alan McGee’s Creation Records in the UK. His 1999 debut single, “Give You All The Love,” became a hit in both the UK and Japan, followed by his critically acclaimed self-titled debut album featuring backing vocals from Heather Nova. His subsequent albums include One Tree (2005), produced by Martin Terefe, and Above the Bones, where he collaborated with Daryl Thompson and was signed to Matthew McConaughey’s j.k. livin label. Above the Bones debuted at number one on the Billboard Reggae Charts in 2009, earning him iTunes’ Best New Artist award in the singer/songwriter category. Mishka continued his success with Talk About (2010), which also reached number one on the iTunes Reggae Chart and featured collaborations with Willie Nelson and producer Butch Walker. He toured extensively to support the album and partnered with surf brand O’Neill on an eco-friendly apparel line. In 2012, he released the EP Ocean Is My Potion, featuring Jimmy Buffett, and in 2013, his album The Journey topped the Billboard Reggae Albums chart, marking his fifth album to achieve that position and cementing his status as a leading reggae artist.
