Marlon Asher

Marlon Asher is a Trinidadian reggae singer from Enterprise, Chaguanas, Trinidad and Tobago, widely recognized for his breakthrough hit “Ganja Farmer.” Raised on Enterprise Street, he was deeply influenced by spirituality from an early age, singing in the Mount Ararat Spiritual Baptist Church Choir before later converting to Rastafari. His music reflects strong themes of consciousness, upliftment, and social justice, positioning him as a key voice in Trinidad’s reggae movement. Asher emerged as a pioneer of Trinidadian reggae, with “Ganja Farmer” becoming a major hit while also sparking controversy at home. He explained that the song was inspired by the real struggles of farmers whose crops were destroyed, emphasizing empathy rather than violence or hatred. Asher has consistently stated that his music is about awareness, humanity, and changing how people think about life and coexistence. Before music fully took over his career, he worked as a joiner and mason, leaving the trade due to allergies and a serious sawing accident that cost him his left index finger. Internationally, Marlon Asher has toured extensively, performing across the United States, Europe, Africa, and beyond, and sharing stages with artists such as Sizzla, Capleton, Anthony B, Slightly Stoopid, Beenie Man, and Boyz II Men. He has helped pave the way for many Trinidadian reggae artists and released several projects, including Illusions (2015) and Rebirth (2019). During the COVID-19 pandemic, he continued creating music, releasing singles like “Family Love” and “Use Me,” and later returned to live performances in 2021, reaffirming his lasting influence in reggae music.
