Country: Jamaica
Lutan Fyah, born Anthony Martin on 6 December 1975 in Spanish Town, Jamaica, is a reggae singer and member of the Bobo Shanti branch of the Rastafari movement. Before fully committing to music, he studied Architecture at the University of Technology and also played professional football for Constant Spring F.C. His background outside music helped shape the disciplined and conscious tone that later became central to his artistic identity. He began his music career in 1999 under the name Lutan Fyah (also credited at times as Lute and Fyah), recording his earliest work with Buju Banton’s Gargamel Records. His first albums were released by Lustre Kings and Minor 7 Flat 5, and he quickly became known for collaborations with prominent conscious reggae artists such as Turbulence and Luciano. Alongside album releases, he recorded numerous singles for Jamaican, UK, and US labels, appeared on multiple compilation projects, and experimented with covers and cross-genre collaborations, including work with dubstep producer Rusko. Over the years, Lutan Fyah has remained a consistent international presence, performing at major festivals such as the Uppsala Reggae Festival and touring widely across Europe and Africa. His 2013 album Life of a King marked a milestone in his career and was followed by a live birthday concert recorded for DVD. In 2019, he released Longest Liva, his fifteenth studio album, featuring collaborations with artists including Johnny Live and Beenie Man, further cementing his status as a respected voice in modern roots reggae.
