Locomondo Overview Locomondo is one of Greece’s most well-known and successful bands, blending reggae, ska, and Caribbean sounds with Greek lyrics and traditional musical elements. The six-member band is fronted by Markos Koumaris, who serves as the main songwriter and composer. Career Highlights Albums & Awards: Locomondo has released 8 albums, including Locomondo Live!, which went gold in December 2011. Two of their music videos won the "Best Alternative Video Clip" award from Mad-TV Greece in 2007 and 2010. Recording in Jamaica: In 2005, the band recorded in Jamaica at the invitation of ex-Skatalites trombonist Vin Gordon, producing the album 12 meres stin Jamaica ("12 Days in Jamaica"). The album featured two standout tracks: A reggae cover of the 1935 Rembetiko classic Frangosyriani by Markos Vamvakaris, which was later included in Fatih Akin’s Venice Film Festival Special Jury Prize-winning film Soul Kitchen (2009). Den kani kryo stin Ellada ("It’s Not Cold in Greece"), an anthem celebrating positivity; its chorus became a widely recognized slogan in Greece. Collaborations: Me Wanna Dance featured Spanish singer Amparo Sanchez (Amparanoia) and Natty Bo (Ska Cubano). In 2010, Locomondo recorded Goal, a romantic song about football, which became an unofficial anthem for the Greece National Football Team during their 2010 World Cup qualification. The video featured Dimitris Salpingidis, the first Greek player to score in a World Cup finals match. In 2012, Italian rap band Club Dogo released P.E.S., based on Locomondo’s song Pro, achieving platinum success in Italy. Turkish singer Ziynet Sali covered Magiko Hali in 2015. Spanish singer-songwriter Tonino Carotone collaborated with Locomondo in 2017 on the song La Mulata, co-written with Markos Koumaris.
