Lady G

Country: Jamaica

Lady G (born Janice Fyffe, 7 May 1968) is a pioneering Jamaican dancehall and reggae deejay from Spanish Town, St. Catherine. The daughter of reggae singer Ken Fyffe, she was immersed in music from an early age and gained early experience touring with the Black Scorpio sound system. After leaving school, she was mentored by dancehall veteran Lord Sassafrass, helping to shape her career as one of the genre’s standout female voices. She is now based in New Jersey, USA. Lady G rose to prominence in the late 1980s with her breakthrough hit “Nuff Respect” (1988), produced by Gussie Clarke, and popular collaborations with Papa San including “Legal Rights” and “Round Table Talk.” She became known for her bold performances and high-profile clashes at Jamaica’s Sting stage show, cementing her reputation as a fearless and commanding performer in a male-dominated dancehall scene. In the 1990s and 2000s, Lady G scored further success with tracks like “Breeze Off” and “Man a Bad Man,” and gained international exposure through the UK hit “Girls Like Us.” She later launched her own production company, G-String, releasing influential riddims featuring top reggae and dancehall artists. A respected veteran, Lady G continues to perform internationally and was honored in 2020 with JaRIA’s Iconic Artiste in the Music Industry award.
