Byiome Muir, professionally known as I-Octane (born 29 April 1984), is a Jamaican reggae and dancehall artist from Clarendon Parish known for blending conscious lyrics with mainstream appeal. Raised in Sandy Bay near May Pen, he showed musical talent early but left formal education—including a brief stint studying architecture—to pursue music full time. Deeply influenced by personal struggles and Rastafarian teachings, I-Octane’s work often focuses on social issues, faith, and emotional resilience. He began recording at age 16, first working with Penthouse Records under the name Richie Rich before rebranding as I-Octane at Arrows Records. His breakthrough came in 2007 with the socially charged track “Stab Vampire”, followed by emotional hits like “Mama You Alone” and “Lose A Friend.” After leaving Arrows due to financial disputes, he teamed up with veteran producer Robert Livingston, scoring major success with songs such as “No Love Inna Dem,” “Puff It,” and “My Life.” His growing influence led to brand ambassador roles with Digicel, Golden Eagle, and Busta. In 2011, I-Octane launched his own label, Conquer The Globe Productions, releasing the EP Straight From The Heart before dropping his debut album Crying To The Nation (2012), which earned strong international reviews. He followed with My Journey (2014), Love and Life (2018)—which debuted at #3 on the Billboard Reggae chart—Moods (2021), and I Am Great (2022). Over the years, I-Octane has established himself as a consistent voice in modern Jamaican music, respected for balancing commercial success with meaningful, uplifting content.
