Honey Boy (born c. 1955, Saint Elizabeth Parish, Jamaica) is a Jamaican reggae singer known for his contributions to lovers rock and the UK reggae scene. Early Life and Move to the UK Born in Saint Elizabeth Parish, Jamaica, around 1955. Moved to the United Kingdom in the late 1960s, living first in Oxford, then settling in London. Began his UK music career as a backing vocalist for Laurel Aitken. Career Early Recordings Recorded debut single “Jamaica” in 1971 for Trojan Records and for Junior Lincoln's Banana label, followed by singles like “Homeward Bound”. Released several singles under the names Honey Boy, Happy Junior, and Boy Wonder. Contributed “Jamaica” to the 1971 live album Trojan Reggae Party. Released his first album, This Is Honey Boy, in 1973. Mid-1970s – Lovers Rock Era Collaborated with Winston Curtis, a former Studio One musician turned UK producer, and also recorded for Count Shelley. Became a major figure in the emerging lovers rock scene in the mid-1970s, scoring several reggae chart hits in 1977. 1980s and Later Work Released the album Arise in 1980, recorded with members of Aswad. In 2002, featured as a vocalist on “Always There” from UB40 Present the Fathers of Reggae. Honey Boy is recognized for bridging Jamaican roots reggae and the UK lovers rock movement, leaving a lasting influence on the genre.
