Hollie Cook

Country: England

Hollie Cook, born in 1987 in West London, England, is an English singer and keyboardist known for blending reggae with pop influences, a style she calls “tropical pop.” She comes from a musical family—her father is Sex Pistols drummer Paul Cook, her mother Jeni was a backing singer for Culture Club, and Boy George is her godfather. Hollie’s musical influences include classic 1960s girl groups and female rocksteady and reggae singers such as Janet Kay and Phyllis Dillon. Cook began her career as part of the final line-up of the all-female punk/reggae band The Slits, performing on their 2006 EP Revenge of the Killer Slits. She collaborated with artists like Ian Brown and Jamie T before launching her solo career in 2010 with producer Prince Fatty. Her self-titled debut album, Hollie Cook (2011), featured contributions from George Dekker and Dennis Bovell and was praised by the BBC and other outlets. She also released a dub remix of the album in 2012 and covered Amy Winehouse’s “You Know I’m No Good” for the Q tribute album Back to Back to Black. Her subsequent albums include Twice (2014), funded via PledgeMusic, and Vessel of Love (2018), which features collaborators such as Alex Paterson, Youth, Gaudi, and Jah Wobble. Hollie Cook has performed on notable platforms such as BBC radio sessions and Later… with Jools Holland, and she supported the Stone Roses during their 2012 reunion shows, solidifying her presence as a modern torchbearer of reggae and tropical pop fusion.
