Haha

Haha (born August 20, 1979, in Stuttgart, West Germany) moved to Seoul as an infant and was raised in a highly educated family—his mother holds a doctorate in psychology, and his older sister is a classically trained pianist with a doctorate as well. He earned a master’s degree in Drama and Fine Arts from Daejin University and debuted in the music industry in 2001 as a rapper with the hip-hop group Z-kiri, though the group disbanded quickly. He later pursued a solo music career, releasing his first album The Beautiful Rhyme Diary in 2005, which initially struggled to gain attention. His breakthrough came through television, beginning with What’s Up YO! and the sitcom Nonstop, where his comedic talent gained public recognition. Haha’s popularity surged after guesting on X-Man, especially for his impersonations of Kim Jong-kook, leading to regular appearances. In 2005, he joined Infinite Challenge, which became one of Korea’s most influential variety shows, solidifying his status as a top entertainer before temporarily leaving in 2008 to complete his mandatory military service. After returning in 2010, Haha rejoined Infinite Challenge and became a core cast member of SBS’s Running Man, earning multiple awards including “Best Entertainer.” Alongside variety work, he continued music collaborations—most notably reggae projects with Skull and duo performances with Kim Jong-kook. Married to singer Byul since 2012, Haha is also a devoted family man with three children, balancing a long-running entertainment career across music, television, and radio.
