Gaudi

Daniele Cenacchi, professionally known as Gaudi, is an Anglo-Italian musician and record producer born on 12 July 1963. Active since the early 1980s, he is known for blending dub, electronica, reggae, worldbeat, and psychedelic sounds. He began his career in Italy as a keyboardist in underground bands and later became a pioneer of Italian hip-hop through projects such as Raptus and the production collective Tubi Forti. During this period, he released his early solo work, experimented with electronic textures, and began incorporating the theremin into his music, laying the foundation for his distinctive dub-experimental style. In 1995, Gaudi relocated to London, where his career expanded internationally. He founded Sub Signal Records and released influential albums such as Earthbound, Bass, Sweat & Tears, and No Prisoners. His London years were marked by extensive collaborations across genres, including work with Elisa, Michael Franti, Bunny Wailer, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Pete Namlook, Mad Professor, and the Orb. His album Dub Qawwali earned a BBC Radio 3 World Music Award nomination, while numerous side projects and aliases showcased his versatility as a producer, composer, and remix artist. From the 2010s onward, Gaudi became a central figure in global dub and electronic fusion, collaborating with artists such as Lee “Scratch” Perry, Youth, Deep Forest, Horace Andy, and Don Letts. He released concept albums, dub reinterpretations, and genre-crossing collaborations, while also contributing to film, theatre, and large-scale live projects. In recent years, his work has continued to evolve through projects like Gaudi Kosmisches Trio and Phonolab, reaffirming his reputation as an innovative and influential force in contemporary dub and experimental music.
