Fidel Nadal

Country: Argentina

Fidel Nadal (born October 4, 1965) is an Afro-Argentinian reggae musician, songwriter, and pioneer of both Argentine reggae and the country’s underground punk/hardcore scene. Born in Buenos Aires to an academic family, Nadal was influenced early on by blues, jazz, and Afro-Argentine culture. Descended from Angolan slaves, he is fluent in Spanish, English, and Jamaican Patois, and his music and ideology are deeply rooted in Rastafarian culture and Bob Marley’s influence. Nadal began performing in 1984 and a year later formed the band Todos Tus Muertos, which blended reggae, punk, and hip-hop. The group achieved success with six albums before disbanding in 2000. During the 1990s, he also formed Lumumba, a reggae band with his brother and former bandmate, releasing four albums before its dissolution. In 2001, Nadal embarked on a solo career with a fully Rastafarian style, releasing albums like Selassie I Dios Todopoderoso, Cabeza Negra, and Repatriación. His 2008 hit single International Love gained widespread recognition, appearing in FIFA 10 and later being remixed with Latin urban artists. Over the years, Nadal has been recognized as a key figure in Latin American reggae. He appeared twice on the cover of Rolling Stone Argentina and received two Latin Grammy nominations in 2011 for Best Alternative Album (Forever Together) and Best Alternative Song (“Te Robaste Mi Corazón”). Nadal continues to record and tour, blending his Afro-Argentine identity and Pan-African consciousness into music that promotes solidarity, love, and unity.
