Fantan Mojah

Country: Jamaica

Fantan Mojah, born Owen Lennox Moncrieffe on 5 August 1976 in White Hill, Saint Elizabeth Parish, Jamaica, is a reggae singer known for his strong conscious and spiritual message. He began his musical journey by working with a traveling sound system, where he gained experience performing during sound checks. Early in his career he used the name Mad Killer, inspired by Bounty Killer, but after embracing the Rastafarian faith, he was encouraged by Capleton to adopt the name Fantan Mojah, reflecting a shift toward more uplifting and purposeful music. As part of the new wave of contemporary reggae artists, Fantan Mojah is especially recognized for his positive lyrical themes. A member of the Bobo Ashanti sect, his music frequently centers on praise for Jah, Rastafarian teachings, moral consciousness, and respectful portrayals of women. This approach sets him apart from much of mainstream dancehall, which often focuses on slack or explicit content, and has helped establish him as a leading voice in modern conscious reggae. After building momentum through performances at major Jamaican festivals and recording songs on popular riddims, Fantan Mojah signed with Downsound Productions. His debut album, Hail the King, was released in 2005 and included notable tracks such as “Hail the King,” “Nuh Build Great Man” featuring Jah Cure, and “Corruption.” The album was particularly successful in Europe, leading to multiple European tours beginning in 2006 and solidifying his international reputation as a powerful and influential reggae artist.
