Dubmatix is a Canadian reggae and electronic music artist and producer based in Toronto, Ontario. Born Jesse E. King, he grew up in a musical family as the son of renowned jazz keyboardist Bill King. From an early age, he developed strong musical foundations, playing drums as a child, studying guitar and piano, and performing bass in his high school orchestra. Adopting the name Dubmatix, King began recording and performing electronic and reggae-influenced music in the early 2000s. By 2004, he had released an album of electronic dub music, followed by his second album Atomic Subsonic in 2007. His work blends traditional reggae and dub with modern electronic production, earning him recognition within Canada’s reggae scene. Dubmatix has achieved significant critical success, including multiple Juno Awards. His collaborative album Gonna Be Alright with Prince Blanco won Reggae Recording of the Year at the 2010 Juno Awards, while later projects such as Seeds of Love and Life earned further nominations. In 2018, he collaborated with legendary duo Sly & Robbie on Overdubbed, which went on to win the Juno Award for Reggae Recording of the Year in 2019, cementing his status as a leading figure in contemporary reggae and dub music.
