Benjamin Stanford (born 11 June 1983), better known by his stage name Dub FX, is an Australian musician and internationally known street performer recognized for his innovative solo live performances. Born in St Kilda, Melbourne, he began his music career as a vocalist in the alternative rock and rapcore band Twitch, later renamed N.O.N (Never or Now), releasing the album *Exeunt Omnes* in 2004. After moving to Italy, Stanford embarked on a solo career, developing his signature style of creating full, layered tracks live using only his voice, looping technology, and effects pedals, blending hip hop, reggae, and drum and bass influences. Dub FX gained global attention through street performances across Europe, where his raw, high-energy busking and socially conscious lyrics attracted large crowds and widespread online sharing. He frequently collaborated with artists such as Flower Fairy, Mr. Woodnote, and producer Sirius, with whom he released the collaborative album *A Crossworlds* in 2010. Entirely independent, Dub FX built his career without major label support, relying on live shows, direct fan engagement, and internet platforms. He also founded the Convoyunltd label, a cooperative platform for releasing his music and that of close collaborators. Lyrically, Dub FX focuses on social justice, personal freedom, and political awareness, encouraging self-determination and critical thinking. Songs like “Society’s Gates” reflect philosophical and societal themes, often challenging systems of control and conformity. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Stanford relocated from Australia to Lisbon, Portugal with his wife Sahida and their two daughters. Today, Dub FX remains a prominent figure in independent music, known for redefining live performance and maintaining full creative control over his art.
