Del Arno Band

Country: Serbia

Del Arno Band (often abbreviated as DAB) is a pioneering Serbian reggae band formed in Belgrade in 1986 by brothers Jovan and Vladan Matić. They are widely regarded as the first Yugoslav roots reggae band to perform and record original reggae songs, and today are considered the longest-lasting reggae act from the former Yugoslavia. Emerging in the late 1980s, the band gained recognition through club performances and festival appearances, releasing their debut material at a time when reggae was still largely unexplored in the regional music scene. During the 1990s, Del Arno Band established themselves as a major force in Serbian alternative music with releases such as Igraj dok te ne sruše and the live album Godina majmuna. Despite lineup changes and periods of hiatus, the Matić brothers maintained continuity, culminating in the comeback album Reggaeneracija (1995), which blended roots reggae with diverse musical influences and produced several radio hits. The band remained active through the turbulent 1990s, including the NATO bombing period, when they performed free concerts in Belgrade. From the 2000s onward, Del Arno Band focused on preserving and expanding their legacy through compilations, new studio albums, and cultural projects connected to reggae history. Albums such as Vreme vode (2006) and Ako ne znaš šta da radiš (2019) reflected musical maturity and social awareness, even after the departure of co-founder Vladan Matić. Celebrated for over three decades of work, Del Arno Band remains a cornerstone of the Serbian reggae scene and a symbol of reggae’s enduring influence in the Balkans.
