Bryan Art: A Brief Biography of a Jamaican Reggae Artist Bryan Art (born Bryan Joseph Grant on September 18, 1977) is a Jamaican reggae singer, songwriter, musician, guitarist, producer, and bandleader, known for his roots‑infused reggae, lovers rock and reggae fusion music. He has been active in music since the mid‑1990s and is respected for his soulful voice, positive lyrical messages, and contributions to Jamaican music both as a solo artist and supporting musician. Bryan Art was born and raised in Murray Mount, Saint Ann Parish, Jamaica, a rural community near the birthplace of Bob Marley. He grew up in a large musical family and learned guitar at a young age from his mother and influenced by his eldest brother. He moved to Kingston in the late 1980s and later studied guitar (Caribbean, Latin, American & Jazz Studies) at the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts. Early in his career, Bryan Art worked as a touring guitarist and musician with established reggae acts. He was a member of the Fire House Crew, backing artists such as Luciano, Mikey General and Sizzla, and later became bandleader and guitarist for Bushman’s Grass Roots Band. In 2001, he launched his solo career under the name Brah Yhan, later evolving to Brahyhan Art and finally Bryan Art. His first single as a solo artist was Soon Come Back. In 2002, he was named Best New Artist by Television Jamaica’s Entertainment Report (ER). Some of his notable early hits include Rock and Come In (2004) and Get It (2005). Bryan Art released his debut album Bryan Art 20Ten in 2010, and later reissued it as Bryan Art in 2013.
