B. B. Seaton

Country: Jamaica

Harris Lloyd "B. B." Seaton (1944–2024), also known as Bibby, was a Jamaican reggae singer, songwriter, and producer whose career spanned more than six decades. Born in Kingston, he began recording as a solo artist in 1960 before forming the duo Winston & Bibby with Winston Delano Stewart. The duo later became part of The Gaylads, one of Jamaica’s most successful vocal groups, though Seaton also performed with The Astronauts and rejoined The Gaylads during the late ska era. He left the group in 1972 to pursue a solo career, achieving hits with songs like Accept My Apology, Sweet Caroline, Lean on Me, and Thin Line Between Love and Hate. Seaton was also a prolific songwriter, penning tracks for other reggae artists, including Ken Boothe (The Girl I Left Behind, Freedom Street), The Melodians (Swing and Dine), and Delroy Wilson (Give Love a Try). He became the first reggae artist signed by Virgin Records, helping to establish the Front Line label. In the mid-1970s, he moved to the United Kingdom, where he became an active producer, creating projects such as the Gun Court Dub series. Throughout his life, Seaton continued performing and recording, often returning to work with The Gaylads. His contributions to reggae as a singer, songwriter, and producer influenced generations of artists, and he remained active in the music scene well into the 2010s. Seaton passed away in London on 4 March 2024 at the age of 79.
